AppTek Awarded by Speech Technology Magazine for its Breakthroughs in Automatic Speech Recognition
Speech Technology Recognized AppTek as a Star Performer in its 11th Annual Speech Industry Awards
Applications Technology (AppTek) has been recognized as a Star Performer by SpeechTech, the speech industry’s leading advocacy organization. AppTek was awarded for its contributions to a variety of automatic speech recognition areas including the advancement of automated closed captioning.
“We are very honored to be recognized in this way,” said Adam Sutherland, AppTek CEO. “We have been leading the way in speech recognition for over 15 years. This award is the culmination of a very successful 2017 – a year which was record-breaking for us in our commercial, government, academic and research achievements. All of which are due to our amazing team of scientists, engineers and customer outreach.”
AppTek’s proprietary ASR engines have been trained on thousands of hours of data and are customized for news and sports, entertainment and telephony. “We actually create a specifically adapted model for each customer,” said Steve Cook, AppTek CTO. “The news stations using our Live Closed Captioning Appliance each have their own ASR model for local vocabulary. The same is true for our telephony clients – not only do we have different models for insurance-related calls versus sales calls, we have specific models for insurance customer A versus insurance customer B.”
